There is nothing mysterious about chiropractic. It's a natural method of healthcare that treats the causes of physical problems rather than just the symptoms. Chiropractic is based on a simple but powerful premise: With a normally functioning spine and a healthy lifestyle, your body is better able to heal itself. That's because the spinal cord, which is protected by your spine, is the main pathway of your nervous system. It controls feeling, movement and function throughout your body.

What Causes Neck And Low Back Pain?
Your neck protects your spinal cord and spinal nerves, while supporting and balancing the weight of your head and body. Poor posture, wear and tear, injury, stress and tension can strain or damage vital parts of your neck and low back.

You neck (cervical spine) and low back (lumbar spine) are aligned in a natural curve at the top and bottom of your spine respectfully. Damage to your neck's or low back's natural curve can cause painful problems.

In your neck and low back you have various tissues that can be damaged:
1) Vertebrae - are bones that protect your spinal cord. They can wear down or be forced out of
position (misaligned.)
2) Muscles - are supportive tissues that can stretch, tear or tighten.
3) Ligaments - are connective tissues that can be torn.
4) Nerves - carry the body's messages, and can be stretched, pinched or irritated.
5) Discs - are shock absorbers that can bulge, rupture or wear down.

Can Chiropractic Care Help Me?
Your doctor of chiropractic looks at your overall health - focusing not only on your neck and low back, but also on your lifestyle. This integrated approach helps determine the best treatment for your pains. The doctor will take a history of your health and physical problems, perform an orthopaedic and neurological examination that can help reveal the condition of your spine. He may take X-rays to better visualize a problem, diagnose your condition and ultimately determine the best course of treatment to help rectify your ailment.
